What's your pond like?

Healthy ponds are teeming with life. They have fish, pondweed, frogs and ducks. However, pollutants like rusting oil drums, litter and car tyres can kill a pond’s life-giving potential. In the same way, our mind can be polluted with negative thoughts, attitudes and beliefs. The more we get used to seeing the pollution, the less we notice it. If, however, we start to say no to rubbish and become our mind’s own aquatic ecologist, new life and potential will return.

Positive thoughts bring us life. Negative ones pollute and sap our energy and potential. The truth is, with determination and practice we can learn to look after our mental pond. We can’t control what thoughts pop up in our minds, but, like leaves in a stream, we can choose to pick them up and collect them or we can let them flow past and away.

Let’s take St Paul’s advice. Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy. Let’s think about such things.
