Is it time to sack your inner critic?
We all talk to ourselves in our heads. What sorts of things do you say to yourself? I’d like to challenge you to start listening in. When I began to do this, I was shocked by what I heard. I was frequently subjecting myself to a barrage of criticism. ‘I can’t believe I’m running late again. It’s ridiculous. No one else seems to manage to get themselves in such a rush every single morning. Unprofessional incompetent woman!
I realised it was as if I had invited a really horrible person to walk round with me negatively critiquing me.
I decided to have stern words with my inner critic and told her that if she didn’t have anything nice to say, she needn’t say anything at all. It’s taken a bit of practice, but I swapped my inner critic for an inner friend.
If you asked Jesus to say something to your inner critic today, what do you think he might say?
